Job Description:

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:   
FreeWheel is hiring a MySQL Database Administrator reporting into the Operations Manager to help administer MySQL databases which drives mission critical line-of-business applications. This candidate will manage all changes to production databases by working with the Engineering team, providing guidance and properly coordinating these changes all while upholding a high Service Level Objective (99.99% uptime) commitment. Aside from the technical aspect, the ideal candidate is someone who is a fun addition to the team and is comfortable both giving and taking recommendations pertaining to the design of the production environment.
  
RESPONSIBILITIES:
o    Responsible for reviewing all application changes that require database access   
o    Tune database parameters for performance and stability
o    Maintain slave replication consistency
o    Enforce security and review database access permissions
o    Design and maintain a fault tolerant MySQL HA solution
o    Perform on-call responsibilities
  
ABOUT YOU
o    3+ years managing, tuning, backing up (full/incremental) MySQL databases
o    3+ years of SQL/ODBC/JDBC development experience  
o    Knowledge in one or more of: C, Java, Python, Perl, PHP, Ruby on Rails  
o    Familiar with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Cacti, MRTG
o    Experienced at working with geographically distributed (WAN based) systems
o    Good English, both written and verbal communication
o    BS degree in CS/MIS or equivalent DBA experience
  
o    Knowledge of the differences between Percona, Infobright, MariaDB is a plus
o    Experienced at designing and building reliable, fault tolerant systems is a plus
o    A working knowledge of Apache, BIND, LighHTTPD, TCP/IP, RSYNC, SNMP, SSH is a plus
